Track Atlas is a free map of public running tracks, run by one person rather than a company. These terms cover using the map, sponsoring a country, and anything you contribute. Like the privacy policy, this is written to be read.
The map is free, needs no account, and you may use it for any lawful purpose, including planning runs, research and journalism.
The data will sometimes be wrong. Track locations, names and surfaces come from OpenStreetMap and automated processing, and are checked in bulk rather than individually. A track may be closed, demolished, on private land, inside a school or prison perimeter, restricted to members, or simply not where the map says. Nothing here is permission to enter anywhere. Check access yourself, obey signs and locked gates, and do not treat a pin on this map as a right of entry.
Do not rely on the map where being wrong would be dangerous or costly. It is offered as is, with no guarantee of accuracy, completeness or availability.
Sponsoring pays the API bill to map a country that is not on the site yet. It is closer to a contribution toward a shared goal than a purchase, and it is worth being precise about what it does and does not buy.
Payments are handled by Stripe. Card details never reach this site.
Before a country is built, ask and you get your money back. Email the address at the bottom, say which country and roughly when you paid, and we will refund it in full. No reason needed.
Once a country has been mapped and published, the money is spent. It went to Google and Anthropic as metered API calls the moment the work ran, and it cannot be recovered. We cannot refund it, and the result is on the site permanently for everyone, including you.
If a country never reaches its goal, or the site shuts down before the work is done, you get a full refund. We will not sit on money for work that is not going to happen. If a refund is impossible because too much time has passed for the card network to accept it, the money goes to mapping another country instead, and we will tell you which one.
Nothing here removes any refund or cancellation right you have by law where you live. If the two conflict, the law wins.
Comments, reports, name corrections and new track submissions are all optional, and they are treated differently from one another.
Only send things you have the right to send. Do not post anything unlawful, abusive, deliberately false, or containing someone else's personal information. Do not use the forms for advertising. Anything falling into those categories can be removed without notice, and repeated abuse can be rate limited or blocked.
Comments are visible to everyone and should be treated as permanently public. Do not put personal information in one.
Track data is derived from OpenStreetMap and is available under the Open Database Licence. If you reuse it you take on the ODbL's terms, including attribution and share-alike. The data licence notice has the detail.
Aerial imagery belongs to its providers: USGS NAIP is public domain, and Google and Esri imagery remains theirs under their own terms. The site's own code, design and written text are not open source and are not licensed for reuse.
Bulk scraping of the site is not permitted. The underlying data is public and you should take it from OpenStreetMap, which is built to serve it.
This is a personal project with no uptime guarantee. It may be slow, briefly broken, or taken down. Features can change or disappear. If the site shuts down permanently, comments will be deleted rather than transferred or published, and unspent sponsorship money will be refunded.
To the extent the law allows, Track Atlas is not liable for loss arising from using the site or relying on its data, including injury, trespass, wasted journeys or lost data. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you have paid the site, which for most people is nothing.
None of this limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them. Material changes will be noted on the map itself. Changes are not applied backwards to a payment already made.
